2019 Annual General Meeting

Date: October 29, 2019

Time: 7:30 – 9:00 pm

Location: at the courts in the David H. Williams Clubhouse (1 Rennie Terrace)

The purpose of the Annual General Meeting is primarily to elect the following season (2019-2020) Board of Directors from among the membership. Any member in good standing is eligible to run for the management board, so please make time to come to the meeting to exercise your vote, or even better, consider participating as a board member. The duties of the Club management board are to promote tennis in the community in a responsible and not-for-profit manner. This includes allocating the available court time to various interests such as lessons, tennis camps for children, competitive tennis matches, social tennis (usually round robins) and so forth versus open court time available to any members. All activities of the Club, including things like basic maintenance, require someone to lead or co-ordinate and then the sum total of the cost of those activities and services must be covered by the membership fees collected. Setting those fee levels appropriately is another critical task of the Board.

There are a variety of positions and all help is welcomed. This is not the only important election in late October, but it is an important one for those who want to ensure the Swansea Tennis Club is the best it can be for the benefit of all members.

The formal meeting is structured to ensure that there are reports about the management, operations and finances of the Club from the current board members, followed by the election of next year’s board. The agenda, that can be printed and brought to the meeting, is found at the following link:

Various formal board reports will be made available at the meeting and may be published prior to the meeting. If they are, links will be provided below, here on this page. An e-mail reminder about the meeting will be sent to members and shall note any reports that are published by that time.

This year is unusual in that the Club restarted after a two-year hiatus prior to the reconstruction of the courts. A status report follows that will be briefly presented at the meeting. Please read in advance if you want to come prepared to ask questions or want to understand the operating context of the Club. The status report can be downloaded at the following link:

If a member is unable to attend the meeting, but is interested in voting, proxy voting is available. This allows a member to assign their vote to a different member who will be in attendance at the meeting. The form (with instructions on it) can be downloaded for printing here:
