Update as of May 18, 2020

It was exciting to hear last week’s Provincial Government announcement that tennis courts can reopen on May 19, 2020. But what they didn’t tell us is that the City has a lot of organizing to do before this can happen. We’ve not received any communications from the City of Toronto yet. And apparently no decisions have been made on when tennis clubs can restart.

Along with providing us with public health protocols to safely operate, please remember that Swansea operates under a City of Toronto permit and as such, we must receive the go-ahead from the City Parks and Recreation and the City Public Health departments before we can get members back on court.

The courts were locked down by the City and only they can remove their gate locks that they installed. Until they’re unlocked by city staff, courts will not be operating. All club programs and events are suspended. We’re working with Armstrong Tennis Academy to assess the impact on lessons.

There is a lot of work to be done to safely position the club for re-opening. Working under conditions of physical distancing will, no doubt, slow down set-up slightly. Rest assured we will share further information with you as soon as we have final details and permission from the City.

Stay tuned for more updates in the coming days.

Keep well!

Update as of May 14, 2020

You probably already know, The Province of Ontario announced today that tennis courts can open up as early as Tuesday, May 19, 2020.  This is great news!

We’ve heard the City of Toronto is working on protocol signage that will be posted at every site; it will not be tennis as usual.   We expect to hear further details including timing on removal of their locks from court gates however, there is no word yet on when this will happen.

More information will shared with you as soon as we receive it from the City.

Thanks for your continued understanding and patience.  Looking forward to being back on the court.

Keep well!

Update as of April 7, 2020

As we pull through this very challenging time together, we hope you’ve found new routines and the little things comforting and rejuvenating.

As you are no doubt aware, the City of Toronto has locked our courts.  According to the Ontario Tennis Association, the City intends to leave the courts locked until at least June 30th.  We’ll provide an update on plans for the upcoming season, including for lessons and camps, once we are further informed.

Since we know that our Club cannot operate a full season this year, it is the Club’s intention to transfer credit to existing members for the time period we are closed this year and apply it to next year’s renewal fee.  Because we are forced to remain closed for half of the year in 2020, returning members who have already registered will pay only half for their 2021 membership fee.  New member registrations in 2021 will be unaffected.

Continued best wishes!

Update as of March 25, 2020

We hope you and your families are well, especially during this unprecedented time with the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have been closely monitoring the situation and following guidelines and communications issued by Canadian tennis organizations, as well as the City of Toronto and the provincial and federal governments.

The health and safety of our club members remain at the top of our concerns, particularly as we deal with this crisis.

We know that many of you are wondering when will the 2020 tennis season begin at the club, given the current circumstances.  We can only open and operate the club through an annual permit from the City of Toronto.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, the City of Toronto has advised that they have not yet issued permits to any tennis clubs, and for now, the first effective day of the 2020 permit will not be April 5.   This will be rescheduled as we get updated information.

Swansea Tennis Club will remain closed until we have a permit from the City of Toronto.

We truly appreciate your understanding and we’ll keep you updated as new information arrives.

Keep well, best wishes!

City of Toronto Court Closure Order – COVID19

Swansea Tennis Club was advised of the City of Toronto’s order to CLOSE Community Tennis Clubs through to April 5, 2020. The courts are now inaccessible and are locked, you’ll also notice all nets have been lowered.

We wish it were not the case but we hope you can understand this temporary inconvenience at this time.

Looking forward to our tennis season opening up soon. We’ll keep you updated with information from the City as soon as it is made available.

Keep well and take good care!
